Release date: August 5, 2025
Proxmox VE 9.0 is the largest update to the popular open-source virtualization platform in years. The new version is based on Debian 13 “Trixie” and the default Linux kernel 6.14.8-2, offering improved performance, security, and support for the latest hardware.
Why should you upgrade?
- Increased reliability – snapshots on shared LVMs (iSCSI / Fibre Channel) operate independently of the SAN provider.
- Zero-downtime for storage – expanding the RAIDZ pool “on the fly” allows adding disks without service interruptions.
- Flexible SDN networks – the Fabrics module automatically switches interfaces and simplifies spine-leaf, EVPN, or Ceph topologies.
- More HA control – new affinity rules help keep critical VMs/CTs on the appropriate hosts.
- Mobile management – the refreshed mobile interface (Rust + Yew) allows starting, stopping, and monitoring machines directly in the browser.
What’s new under the hood?
- QEMU 10.0.2, LXC 6.0.4, ZFS 2.3.3, Ceph Squid 19.2.3
- Security updates from Debian 13
- Detailed migration guide from Proxmox VE 8.x
